» 2009 May 2: Scholars Softball Tournament

With drama unseen for many years, SDU won 2 (!) games (including a win over defending champs Advocates) and would have made the semi-finals but for the fact that we had to borrow some girls to play for us (SDU girls, where were you?) In any case, the fundraisers produced over $200 for our charity, Owens Science Center. Great job, everyone!

 

» 2009 May 1: Scholars Academic Showcase

SDU sophomores turned out some great posters and helped make this Academic Showcase a success!

 

» Spring Break 2009 Travel Study in Arizona:

In partnership with the Earth Life and Time Scholars program, our biannual travel study to Arizona was a great success. On the ten day trip, we took in Meteor Crater, the Grand Canyon, Kitt Peak Observatory and much more. We camped for three of the nine nights and drove over a thousand miles for a memorable experience. If you feel like you missed out (and you did), we're planning on going again in 2011!

 

» 2009 February 7: natsuha and casey do the newseum

A very select group has a great time at the Newseum: even after almost 4 hours without a break, we did not exhaust the exhibits.

 

» 2008 Nov 1/2: CP Scholars go to Green Bank

16 SDU and 14 STS students join 3 faculty on an overnight trip to the radio telescopes at Green Bank, WV, with hiking, caving and eating thrown in.

» 2008 April: SDU with CP Scholars in New York

Two-night stay in the Manhattan Hilton not far from Times Square in New York with excursions to the Rose Center and Natural History Museum, Central Park, a Broadway show, and the Metropolitan Museum.

 

» 2008 April: Rocket launching at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center

Very popular excursion to launch rockets after a big party a week earlier to build and paint them: we stopped off at the National Wildlife Visitors' Center (and passed the Secret Service training grounds) on the way to GSFC, but I had a hard time getting the students off the bus on this cold wet day. The rocket launch was a different story (but had to leave early, so apologies to those whose rockets I missed - I wanted to see the ones with googly eyes).

 

» 2008 March: Maryland Science Center

Saturday excursion to the very interactive Maryland Science Center at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, including the very graphic BodyWorlds 2 exhibit of "plastinated" bodies and body parts.

 

» 2007 December: Air and Space Museum

Weekend excursion to the Air and Space Museum downtown.

 

» 2007 November: Green Bank

Overnight trip to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank, West Virginia: observing the galaxy, side trips to Seneca Rocks and Seneca Caves.
